Semax
Overview
A heptapeptide analogue of ACTH(4-10) lacking corticotropic activity. Studied in Eastern European literature for neuroprotection in ischemic stroke and cognitive performance research.
Research profile · for clinicians
Based on research: examined in neuroprotection and cognitive-performance literature, largely from Russian clinical work in ischemic stroke recovery. Preclinical models point to increases in BDNF and NGF in the hippocampus, which are markers commonly associated with neuronal resilience and learning.
Mechanism of action
Reported to upregulate BDNF and NGF expression in the hippocampus and to modulate enkephalin degradation, supporting neuroprotective effects in preclinical ischemia models.
